Have you ever just randomly given something away because you felt like it or because you meet someone in need of something you had? Not long ago the lady in front of me at the supermarket had forgotten to bring her credit card and had less change than the charged cost of her food. I handed her $10. She was surprised. I insisted. She was still a few dollars short and took two litres of milk out of her trolley to adjust the balance. She left thankful. I proceeded to pay for my food as well as the extra milk that the lady had left behind. I’m not sure what impact giving away $10 might have but it felt good. That night I told my sons of my supermarket adventure. I was fascinated with the conversation that pursued. They were full of amazing stories about giving and receiving and spent considerable time dreaming up interesting ways to randomly give things away.
I believe that giving is an intrinsic part of who we are. Giving things away can bring great satisfaction, improved wellbeing (for you and others), and change the world. This blog is dedicated to promoting giving.
